Athena
Come meet one of Columbus Ohio's favorite dance teacher and performers

Our Roles:
Athena’s Responsibility:
Keep you safe:
-
Body
Examples of this include: offering modifications, all ADA accommodations, accessible places to practice and perform
-
Mind
Examples of this include: providing the best information I know at the time, giving resources freely, finding source educators to teach on their culture as a priority
-
Soul
Examples of this include: using gender and body neutral language, allowing all who want to learn into my classroom, taking feedback joyfully
Your Responsibility:
Stay in your body
Examples of this include: not comparing yourself to others, staying as focused as possible in class, alerting the teacher when you need help
Phone Policy:
If you need to check your phone, feel free to. I know life gets in the way! Please take phone calls out off the class room.
No video may be taken during active class time. Video may be taken after the last class of the day with the instructor and any students. If this is to be posted to social media, it must be shared before the photo is taken and participants can opt into the photo. Photos will be made available for review and deletion after the class.
Performance Policy:
Anyone who has learned a choreography has the right to perform it at all venues and performance opportunity. Choreography credit is required if over 40% of the original choreography is used.
To perform in an upcoming show, dancers must attend the previous two rehearsals, unless discussed with Athena before the absence.
When performing as part of the troupe, you become a representation of us. As a group we are every dancers biggest fan and will act accordingly.
Proper costuming and cover up is required, which will be discussed with Athena.
Attendance/ Cancellation Policy:
Class starts and ends at the posted time. We want you to come as you are, and sometimes that is late. That does not mean class will go over to that Athena will be able to provide the same information and care as she can during class. She may choose to send back notes, video, or provide time to go over, but this is at her discretion/ bandwidth and is not an expectation.
If class is cancelled, the Recreation Center staff will reach out.
Classroom Comfort Policy:
Feel free to bring food or something to drink to class. You need to care for yourself and we want you to take care of yourself!
Shoes are recommended.
With prior warning, you can have a guest join one class without registering. This must be discussed with Athena ahead of time, and she may inquire more to make sure your guest is a good fit for the classroom (i.e. we do not want someone coming to try to get a free belly dance show and distract from learning.) If a person does not have a person in class to “vouch” for them, they must register for the session.
Safety Policy:
If someone attends class and acts in a manner that makes people feel unsafe or uncomfortable, please bring this to Athena and she will manage it. While you might not see “corrective” action to your view, Athena will follow a restorative justice model to make sure everyone feels safe in class.
Athena will identity all emergency exits in the unlikely case of evacuation.
